I never did a real mashup, so I though I’d give it a try. It appeared that mashups are so extremely overrated, I wasn’t even sure if I should put this online. I decided to “publish” it anyway, just to show how totally non-creative this mashup crap is.
Browsed through my collection of instrumentals and a capella’s and determined the key until I found some songs that matched. Spend about an hour until I came across four songs that had the same keys. One a capella by Adele; Rolling in the Deep and three instrumental songs by Britney Spears: Baby One More Time, Hold It Against Me and Toxic (which I didn’t use in the end).
Then I imported all songs into Logic, set the correct tempo and determined the different parts of the songs, like verse, chorus, bridge, break, etc. Took me little less than an hour.
Lined up the matching parts and extended (repeated) or shortened the parts that didn’t match in length with the other song.
Exported the two resulting songs to MP3, searched for matching cover art, uploaded them to SoundCloud (deleted them a few months later), created this page and it was finished.
The whole process of finding songs, matching them inside Logic (which I needed to install first) shifting bits around and putting everything online took me about… 3 hours max!
Like I said: creating mashups is so very, VERY overrated. Don’t think I’ll be doing it again. It’s boring and non-creative stuff.
